UPDATE - Payments can still be made but an email must be sent to the registrar to confirm
With the announcement from the Alberta government about reopening we are pleased to be able to have a softball season. The season will look different this year however.
All players and all divisions
A set of COVID 19 protocols for Phase 1 is attached to this email. All players, coaches and parents will be required to follow these rules in order to play. Phase 2 protocols, or competition protocols, will be provided by Softball Alberta before a return to games and we will shift to those rules at that time.
In order to finalize teams, registration fees need to be paid by Monday, May 31 at 6:00 PM
. We apologize that this is such short notice but it is necessary in order to get teams on fields as soon as possible. You may follow this link to our RAMP interactive registration page: http://southedmontonsoftball.rampregistrations.com
Please note that waivers must be signed before the start of practice if you have not already done so.
The U6 and U8 divisions
These teams will be practice only (please see the Covid protocols attached to this email for details of what this means) until the Province announces Phase 2 of the reopening which we hope to have happen on June 14. These teams will then have two weeks of games against each other and their seasons will end on June 27. If Phase 2 is not announced on June 14, then the plan will be to continue practices until June 27 when the season will come to an end.
As this will be a shorter season, registration fees will be cut by 25% to $75 this year. Players will still receive a team shirt and hat.
U10 and Older Divisions
These teams will also be practice only (please see the Covid protocols attached to this email for details of what this means) until the Province announces Phase 2 of the reopening. The city league for these divisions hopes to start games on June 14 and continue until the July 25. The start date for this league will depend on Phase 2 reopening and may have to be pushed back. If that happens, practices will continue.
Uniforms this year will be jerseys only with no belts or pants provided. The current COVID rules make it impossible to have a regular uniform fitting and pick-up day and so coaches will be given a set of jerseys to hand out before games start. Players will need to have their own pants for games. These pants should be full-length and comfortable for sports, but do not need to be formal ball pants.
And very importantly
The situation with COVID and related health rules is changeable. As a board there are many things that we cannot control and with a lost year of ball, our volunteer base has shrunk dramatically. Some potential teams do not have coaches yet in place and many of our coaches are new. This means that some teams may get a bit of a later start than others while we are waiting for more volunteers to step up to help coach and assistant coach the teams in need. Therefore, some teams may not begin next week as planned but we hope to have every team on a field by June 7 or 8. Please be patient as we organize to get back on the fields. Please consider volunteering to coach a team or volunteer to help an existing coach.
